Like all great ideas, Smudge Publishing was once just a dream. Conjured up by our fearless Editor-in-Chief, Jonette George and her two daughters, Daniele and Kaitlyn Wilton, the mission was simple: to create beautiful books that celebrate and showcase the abundance of produce, wine and culinary talent in Australia.
Now eight years on, with a staff of 18 team members as well as a wide network of freelance writers and photographers, Smudge Publishing is a collective of passionate individuals who strive to constantly unearth the best of the best in all things food-related.
The collection includes over 20 titles, Flavours of Melbourne, which has been named Best Culinary Travel Cookbook in Australia by the Gourmand World Cookbook awards and received two awards at the Independent Publishers Awards in New York City.
The series has expanded with the launch of the international title, Flavours of Bali, and with Flavours of Hong Kong and Specialty Coffee London in the works. The latest release is Flavours of Melbourne Edition 3, covering the finest restaurants, cafes and bars within the city’s CBD. Not ones to sit still, Smudge is also translating its coffee content into Mandarin for the Chinese market.
